A small universe of black and white coexistence.
It took me 47+ years to realize and recognize the coexistence of black and white that is a part of our lives and the universe. Last fall, I participated in a public course, entitled Black Minds Matter. Professor J Luke Wood, whom I am so fortunate to call him as my friend, created and offered this course to his students and the public, taught me the reality of black boys and men in education. As my gratitude to Professor Wood, I write three short expressions of my consciousness that Black Minds Matter.
Meaning
A piece of paper. A white paper.
A blank paper. So bright that I blink my eyes.
Black letters. Collectively, they become phrases, sentences, and paragraphs.
The piece of white paper, now has the meaning.
Time and Space
I like analog clocks.
White background. Stillness.
Black hands. Movement.
There. I know what time it is.
A small universe of black and white coexistence.
Mastery
White belt. Beginning.
Yellow belt. Beginning with some experience.
Green belt. Experienced with some skills.
Brown belt. Skills with experience.
Black belt. Experienced, Skilled, with Mastery.
I say out loud, “Black Minds Matter.”
With gratitude,
GE
